Il augmente l'activit\u00e9 des g\u00e8nes synth\u00e9tisant les pigments qui absorbent la lumi\u00e8re dans les cellules r\u00e9tiniennes. Il augmente aussi l'expression des g\u00e8nes prot\u00e9geant la r\u00e9tine contre le stress oxydatif, lequel peut mener \u00e0 la DMLA s\u00e8che. Klotho ralentit la croissance vasculaire endoth\u00e9liale et pourrait donc jouer un r\u00f4le important dans le ralentissement de la croissance exag\u00e9r\u00e9e de vaisseaux sanguins dans l'\u009cil. Enfin, cette hormone r\u00e9gule la phagocytose dans le segment externe des photor\u00e9cepteurs de la r\u00e9tine. Ce processus permet aux photor\u00e9cepteurs de se renouveler. Sans lui, ils d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e8rent et meurent, entra\u00eenant la c\u00e9cit\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Pour toutes ces raisons, nous croyons que Klotho pourrait \u00eatre une cible th\u00e9rapeutique int\u00e9ressante pour la d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rescence maculaire li\u00e9e \u00e0 l'\u00e2ge\u00a0\u00bb, avance la chercheuse principale Nady Golestaneh.
